Become a Volunteer Examiner
Guidelines for being a Volunteer Examiner with the Central Alabama VEC
Beyond the required legal age of 18 , holding an General Class Amateur Radio License and not being a person whose grant of an amateur station license or amateur operator license has ever been revoked or suspended.
The Central Alabama VEC has a few extra guidelines for being a Volunteer Examiner (VE) listed below:
1) Be a good human
We all have things we like / don’t like – doesn’t matter while we’re in this community, we treat people with respect. That shows up most in the little things, like treating candidates like they’re human beings, not numbers to churn through, and presuming they’re also good humans, not evil workers out to cheat the amateur radio system.
2) Be a good steward of amateur radio
VEs are often the first hams that people interact with in any meaningful way. It’s our job to encourage them, make sure they are comfortable, and want to continue on in the hobby. Interact, talk to people, get to know them in the few minutes we’re all in the same room, and help them in whatever ways we can.
3) Be an active member of the your local Ham Radio community
One of the primary goals of a VE team is to serve the local community not only as testing proctors, but also as Ellmers and support.
4) Have fun
If we aren’t having fun, why are we doing this?
If you are interested becoming a VE contact your local CAVEC VE Team lead listed below to inquire.
**CAVEC only accepts VE applications from Team Leads
